Can we smack challenge blogs? I like to see what a store DT can come up with and I looked at Sir Stampalot today
http://sirstampalotchallenge.blogspot.com/
I can't say the DT has inspired me much for the all creatures great and small challenge, and the prize looks like it's an accumulation of older stock (the paper and crate die cuts)
I think there's a place for all styles of card making if it's done well. I honestly have to say that there's no one style that turns me off, I like cute, clean & simple, shabby-chic, distressed, you name it!! If the card-maker has talent, experience & technique then the card will look good whatever style it has been made in.
If I had to be critical I would smack all the card-making magazines for coming out with the same dreary, uninspiring rammel month after month to the extent that i've given up on them altogether & get all my inspiration online now.
I don't buy UK card magazines at all anymore, so uninspiring. I do get the US Papercrafts mage but tire of seeing the same submitters, surely they must get tons of applicants, it wouldn't hurt them to feature new people a little more.

This is exactly how I think. I love trying all different styles at least once or twice. Lots of talent in all areas for sure. Right now I'm really loving the shabby chic look, vintage feel or otherwise.

I'm not loving the trend for coloured in cutesy images and huge bows on cards too childish and fussy for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteIt has to be real paper for me!
A question for card makers, do you make your own embellishments? I'm not a fan of shop bought embellishments, the prices alone tend to put me off.
ReplyDeleteI try to make my own embellishments where I can, I often take inspiration from what craft companies put out then try and make it myself.
ReplyDeleteIm not keen on tonnes of embellishments on a card....it must cost a fortune to do - especially the ones with a hundred and one Prima flowers on them.
ReplyDeletewho here loves shabby cards?
